Starting 100 heads challenge
Recently I have been finding inspiration from YouTube artists, in particular folks like emrouleart and emhughesart etc. (If you have recommendations, please let me know!) It feels like having a second person in the room making art along with me.
I have been spending more time researching and learning how to enhance my drawing ability, especially using constructive drawing principles. It’s hard! But that’s why we practice.
Anyway - they are both working through a 100 Heads Challenge, where they draw/paint/illustrate 100 heads. I recently completed a commission where it was glaringly obvious to me that I needed to work on my human portraiture and figure drawing so that’s what I’m doing. Here are heads 1-3.
Number 1 (top) I feel pretty alright about. It was my first one, I had some warm ups before hand and I think I did it in 30 minutes or less. I was on my lunch break, so I was rushing.
Number 2 (bottom right) is George Harrison. The very subtle tilting back of the head was a challenge, but I think I did alright. About an hour put into that one, warm ups beforehand.
Number 3 (bottom left) is absolutely not my favorite. I did it in 20 minutes one day when I got to work early and did not do any warming up beforehand - which I am sure you are already aware of.
